Zion LS wants to let you know about the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to help with the cost of your child/children’s tuition through ACE Scholarships. If you haven’t heard of ACE, they are a K-12 scholarship program dedicated to providing scholarships that are purely needs-based for families who meet the income qualifications.
The 2024-2025 ACE Scholarships application is now open and will be through tax-day on April 15, 2024.
An information sheet is attached to today’s memo (2024-2025 Zion Tuition schedule is also included). There you will find income qualification information along with other information, including a QR code that will take you straight to the application process.
You can also apply by clicking on the following link, https://online.factsmgt.com/grant-aid/inst/4N9YC/landing-page
You will need to complete the application itself, attach forms of taxable and nontaxable income verification, and submit a $35 processing fee to FACTS anytime between February 5 and April 15.
Scholarship award decisions are made per student (not per family) and will be made after the application closes for all. Families will be notified of awards in May/June.
A School Year Calendar for 2024-2025 is included with today’s memo as an attachment.
RMLHS Basketball Tournament Information:

* A concession stand will be available on both days. An important reminder is that NO Food or Drink is allowed in the gym area. There is an eating area in the complex. Water and Gatorade are permitted for the players.
The week of our Basketball Tournament is also Spirit week, so we will have special dress-up days each day to add to the fun! Here are the days:
2/12 Monday– Pajama Day- wear your pj’s or comfies; remember modesty is important
2/13 Tuesday– Crazy Head Day; wear a crazy hairdo or dress it up with an unusual hat
2/14 Wednesday– Multiples day; be a twin, triplet, or another multiple with someone in the school
2/15 Thursday– School Spirit Day; wear your Zion colors and gear. There will be a Pep Rally at the end of the day!
Also in connection with the Basketball Tournament, we will have no school on Friday, February 16, as the tournament games run throughout the day and into the evening. This allows for the teachers to help out at the tournament, assist coaches with our teams and, and coach the teams for which they are responsible. Younger siblings can also attend the games, and all can come out to cheer on our Panthers!
Our Mission Offering for today was $27.00 and our total is $173.46. Our offering for the second semester will support mission work in China.

1ST AND 2ND GRADE
Calling all spellers! Grades 1-2 will participate in a spelling bee contest at Zion to see who will represent our school in the CLAL spelling bee in March. This event at Zion will be held after school on Friday, February 23. Parents are encouraged to attend. Stay tuned for reminders in the coming weeks. Words to practice were sent home on Monday. Please talk to Mrs. Merklinger if you have any questions.
There will be no extra spelling practice for homework the next 2 weeks so that students can focus their practice on the spelling bee word list.
Valentine’s Day is on Wednesday. We will have a valentine exchange in the afternoon. I sent a list of student names today in the backpacks in order to help you bring a valentine for every classmate. Each child will also need a container/box for collecting valentines. Thanks!

6TH – 8TH GRADE-
We are about out of Kleenex tissues. If you could send a couple boxes with your child it would be greatly appreciated!
I would like to meet briefly with all the parents of our 6th-8th grade students after school on Thursday, February 22, to give information about a class trip to Grand Junction, Ouray, and Montrose that I would like to take the students on from May 15-17. I will present the proposed trip itinerary, cost for the students, include a permission slip, and ask for chaperones. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well. The meeting should only last 15-20 minutes.
