The “Space Pirates” Musical is coming soon!

Only a couple more weeks before our performances on April 28th at 3:30 and 5:30.  The students have been working hard and are excited to share the fun with all of you, so mark your calendars.

To give us a bit more practice time and not take so much time away from academic classes throughout the school day, we are planning two after school practices for all students in grades 2-8 from 3:30 until 5:00pm. These practices will be held on Thursday, April 13 and Thursday, April 20.

We are providing most of the costumes for the pirate and alien characters but a few items from each student are needed.  Please read the list that follows and send your child’s costume in a bag marked with their name by Monday, April 24.

If you have any questions concerning costumes or anything else related to the play please contact Mrs. Schaefer at wschaefer@zion-wels.org.

3-8 grade Pirates:  Black pant/skirts/leggings, white shirt, black shoes/boots

3-8 grade Aliens:    Black pants/leggings, black shoes/boots

3-4 grade students:   Button down LONG sleeve shirt (this is in addition to the other costume items.  They will wear this over their other costume in scene 1)

Sophia, Lorena, Jozilyn and Addison:  School clothes to fit characters personality and likes

Museum Guide:    Black pants/skirt, nice shirt

P-2 students:   Look for costume ideas from your child’s teacher

We are looking for parent volunteers on Tuesday, April 25, from morning drop off to around 12:00pm, to help set up the stage. Many hands make light work! If you can’t make that morning and you would still like to help, please contact Joelle Beckmann @ jobeck5280@gmail.com

Zion LS wants to let you know about the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to help with the cost of your child/children’s tuition through ACE Scholarships. If you haven’t heard of ACE, they are a K-12 scholarship program dedicated to providing scholarships that are purely needs-based for families who meet the income qualifications.

The 2023- 2024 ACE Scholarships application will be open February 6, through Tax Day, April 18, 2023.

If you would like to complete the application, it is done on a website called FACTS. You will need to complete the application itself, attach forms of taxable and nontaxable income verification, and submit a $35 processing fee to FACTS anytime between February 6 and April 18.

Scholarship award decisions are made per student (not per family) and will be made after the application closes for all. Families will be notified of awards in May/June.

If you have any questions for ACE directly at, 856.746.6521 or

support@acescholarships.zendesk.com. If you are interested in applying, please use the following link: Welcome to Grant & Aid (factsmgt.com)

Notice: ZION LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL has received results for lead drinking water testing

In June, Governor Polis signed into law Colorado House Bill 22-1358: Clean Water in Schools and Child Care Centers. This bill requires all licensed child care programs and public schools to test their drinking water for lead and take action when results show levels of lead at or above 5 parts per billion (ppb). The goal of this law is to lower children’s exposure to lead. To meet these requirements, ZION LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL has tested for lead at all water fixtures used for drinking and cooking.

Lead is a toxic metal that is especially harmful to young children. The degree of risk depends on the child’s total exposure to lead from all environmental sources – air, soil, dust, food, paint, consumer products, and water. Typically old or corroded lead plumbing or old brass fixtures can contribute to increased lead levels in drinking water. If you are concerned about your child’s exposure you can have their blood tested. Please contact your health provider to learn more about testing your child’s blood for lead. For more information please visit: https://cdphe.colorado.gov/lead-testing.

Schools/child care facilities that have lead results in drinking water above 5 parts per billion (ppb) must take action to reduce exposure to lead. When lead is found at or above 5 ppb, the fixture is shut off while a more long-term solution is underway. These solutions may include permanently removing the fixture from service, designating a fixture as “not for drinking”, replacing drinking water faucets or fountains, or installing filters. For the fixtures where lead is found below 5 ppb, we will follow routine practices to further lower potential exposure.

Results Summary:

  • 1 Fixtures were tested
  • 1 Fixtures had lead results that tested below 5 ppb – no further action is required
  • 0 Fixtures had lead results that tested at or above 5 ppb

You can view the detailed sample results and remediation plans at the following link: https://cdphe.colorado.gov/environment/lead-safety/test-and-fix-water-for-kids. Results may take up to 30 days to be posted on this webpage. Protecting the health and wellbeing of Colorado’s children is our top priority, and we will keep you updated during the process at ZION LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL. If you have questions or concerns about our facility and the actions we are taking, please contact Maddie Monday at maddie.monday@zion-den.com .
