In your prayers, please remember the Mondays.  Mr. Monday’s grandmother’s soul was brought to heaven last Saturday morning.  The Mondays are traveling to South Dakota for the funeral over the weekend.  Please pray for their comfort and safe travels.

Zion LS is blessed to have a Hot Lunch program to offer to our students every Wednesday! As many of you have noticed, food prices have risen dramatically over the last several months. Unfortunately, the hot lunch volunteers have been subsidizing the program with their own money as we aren’t collecting enough money to cover the cost of the program. Because we don’t want to cause unnecessary hardship on our volunteers, we have decided to raise the cost of hot lunch by $1. Beginning next week, hot lunch will cost $4 per student.

The RMLHS Basketball Tournament is this Friday and Saturday.  We will not have school allowing our teams to play and all students can cheer.  A tournament schedule is attached to this email.   All tournament games are at The Sports Courts Complex (11295 Washington St, Northglenn, CO 80233).  RML  will be charging an admission fee for all spectators who are not coaches, volunteers, or players.  Admission will be $6/adults and $4/student.  Admission is good for both days of the tournament.  We encourage fans to pre-purchase their tickets online by visiting: https://gofan.co/app/events/883622?schoolId=CO68920

A concession stand will be available on both days.  It is important for you to know however that there is NO Food or Drink allowed in the gym area.  There is an eating area in the complex.  Water and Gatorade is permitted for the players.

Also, the Courts have asked us to stay off the other courts not being used during the tournament.  They will do their part in putting up bleacher barriers blocking entrance to the other courts, but we need to keep our teams, cheerleaders, and families off of these courts.  Thanks for your help with this.  Our B-team’s first game on Friday is at 9:30am v SVL.

Our A-team’s first game on Friday is at 10:30am v SVL.

Ash Wednesday is next week.  This day marks the beginning of the season of Lent in the church year.  Zion will have a worship service at 7:00pm that evening.  We will have Wednesday evening services for the 5 weeks that follow as well.  Zion offers Lenten suppers before each of the mid-week services. The suppers begin at 5:45pm. Please join us as we prepare our hearts for Holy Week.

The Zion Academic and Arts Day is after school next Friday, Feb 24, 2023. Events will begin at 3:45. All students in grades 1-8 will be participating in competitions to determine who will represent Zion in the CLAL Academic and Arts Day competitions on March 4.  Student art projects will also be on display in our hallways.  Parents are invited and encouraged to attend.  This is a great opportunity for our students to grow academically!

Here is the order and location of the events for each classroom:

Grades 1-2 Spelling Bees in the Fine Arts room

Grades 3-5 Spelling Bees and Forensics in the fellowship hall

Grades 6-8 Spelling Bees and Forensics in the church

Zion LS wanted to let you know about the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to help with the cost of your child/children’s tuition through ACE Scholarships. If you haven’t heard of ACE, they are a K-12 scholarship program dedicated to providing scholarships that are purely needs-based for families who meet the income qualifications.

The 2023- 2024 ACE Scholarships application will be open February 6, through Tax Day, April 18, 2023.

If you would like to complete the application, it is done on a website called FACTS. You will need to complete the application itself, attach forms of taxable and nontaxable income verification, and submit a $35 processing fee to FACTS anytime between February 6 and April 18.

Scholarship award decisions are made per student (not per family) and will be made after the application closes for all. Families will be notified of awards in May/June.

If you have any questions for ACE directly at, 856.746.6521 or

support@acescholarships.zendesk.com. If you are interested in applying, please use the following link: Welcome to Grant & Aid (factsmgt.com)

Zion Lutheran School has a new and redeveloped website!  Our address will now be separate from our church’s.  The new address is zionschooldenver.org . Please visit it and take it for a spin.  The Resources dropdown is where current families will find helpful information, such as, school applications, Friday Memo, financial aid and much more.  We’d love to have you share our site with friends and family!

Our chapel offering this week was $16.11.  Our total offerings this semester are $107.45.  Our upper grade students have decided that we will support our Ukrainian Lutheran Church.

Our school is excited to offer two options for Kindergarten next year!  We will continue to offer our Monday, Wednesday, Friday program and will add the option of 5 full days, Monday-Friday.  Please speak to Mr. Schaefer or Mrs. Hoover if you have any questions.

A  link on Parenting topics for you to explore each week comes from our WELS magazine- Forward in Christ.  Please check it out.  There will be a variety of material including articles and podcasts.  Here is this week’s link about, “Choice of Role Models.”  https://forwardinchrist.net/episode-14/

Family Devotion Time is such a blessing not only for children , but also parents.  Here is a link to family devotions that are published 3 times a week.  On this page, you can also choose to have them delivered to your email account.  (This can be a great reminder for doing these on a regular basis.)  May God bless your time spent in devotions together!
