Zion LS wanted to let you know about the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to help with the cost of your child/children’s tuition through ACE Scholarships. If you haven’t heard of ACE, they are a K-12 scholarship program dedicated to providing scholarships that are purely needs-based for families who meet the income qualifications.

The 2023- 2024 ACE Scholarships application will be open February 6th through Tax Day, April 18th, 2023.

To see if your family would qualify, please see the chart below:

If you would like to complete the application, it is done on a website called FACTS. You will need to complete the application itself, attach forms of taxable and nontaxable income verification, and submit a $35 processing fee to FACTS anytime between February 6th and April 18th.

Scholarship award decisions are made per student (not per family) and will be made after the application closes for all. Families will be notified of awards in May/June.

If you have any questions for ACE directly, you are able to reach them at 856.746.6521 or

Zion Lutheran School has a new and redeveloped website!  Our address will now be separate from our church’s.  The new address is zionschooldenver.org . Please visit it and take it for a spin.  The Resources dropdown is where current families will find helpful information.  We’d love to have you share our site with friends and family!

Our school is excited to offer two options for Kindergarten next year!  We will continue to offer our Monday, Wednesday, Friday program and will add the option of 5 full days, Monday-Friday.  Please speak to Mr. Schaefer or Mrs. Hoover if you have any questions.

If you are interested in applying on February 6, please use the following link: Welcome to Grant & Aid (factsmgt.com)

A message from our After School Care Coordinator, Mrs Margo Hahn, ‘Tis the season to clean out the toy boxes, game shelves and craft closets. If you have items you are ready to pass along, then we may have a home for them. The Zion after school program is looking for donations of games, craft supplies, and toys. A few wish list items the kids are most excited about playing with include magna tiles, duplo legos, train tracks/trains, play-doh and accessories, kinetic sand and any crafting/art supplies appropriate for ages 5-12. Please feel free to contact Margo Hahn with any questions (720)880-8477. We greatly appreciate your support of this program!

Our chapel offering this week was $10.94.  Our total offerings this semester are $91.34.  A new mission to support will be chosen soon.

Basketball Practice Thursday, February 8!  We will practice at Gold Crown- 150 S. Harlan in Lakewood.  In order to get to the gym by 3:30pm, players in grades 3-8 will be dismissed from school at 3:15pm. Students in those grades not playing basketball will go to Mrs. Merklinger’s room until 3:30pm.

Our home basketball games  next Friday, February 10 are at Gold Crown vs. SVL (Shepherd of the Valley).  The B-game begins at 2:30pm followed by the A-game at 3:30pm.  We play the games early because court time is not available after 5:00pm.  That being the situation, the basketball players and cheerleaders will be dismissed from school at 2:00pm.  Students not on the teams will remain with Mrs. Merklinger and Mrs. Hoover until the regular pick-up time of 3:30pm.  GO PANTHERS!

A  link on Parenting topics for you to explore each week comes from our WELS magazine- Forward in Christ.  Please check it out.  There will be a variety of material including articles and podcasts.  Here is this week’s link about, “How Can We Model Good Listening Skills for Our Children?”  https://forwardinchrist.net/model-good-listening-skills/

Family Devotion Time is such a blessing not only for children , but also parents.  Here is a link to family devotions that are published 3 times a week.  On this page, you can also choose to have them delivered to your email account.  (This can be a great reminder for doing these on a regular basis.)  May God bless your time spent in devotions together!
